DIRECTING

Alongside new writing, I specialise in fresh versions of classic texts, directing acclaimed productions of plays by Shakespeare, Wilde, Seneca, Goldoni, Marivaux, O’Neill, Ibsen, Farquhar, Strindberg and Pinter in major UK theatres including National Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Theatr Clwyd, York Theatre Royal, Belfast Lyric, Oldham Coliseum, Southampton Nuffield, Theatre Workshop and the Traverse Edinburgh.

I ran the internationally renowned Citizens Theatre Glasgow from 2003-2010, during which time the Theatre was nominated for 73 awards, nearly tripled its box office, made international collaborations in Japan, Sweden, Iran, South Africa, Singapore and the USA and transferred Backbeat to the West End. Previously I ran Chester Gateway Theatre from 1993-1997 for which I won the Stage Award for Special Achievement.
